Tips for Surviving Distance Learning: A Cocktail Guide

0

Are you surviving distance learning? I’ll be honest, I’m struggling. Our school district won’t discuss in-person learning until later this fall. We are in it to win in right now. Or lose it? Depends on the day you ask me.

I’m a mama of five beautiful kids. Ranging from ages 18 – 4. Two of these darling creatures are attending in person preschool, bless it. Our oldest has a pretty in-depth IEP with severe delays and typically is in an inclusive classroom, so her distance learning involves my full hand over hand assistance. She is however able to attend school in person 3 days a week for 2 hours to work on her IEP goals. This is a huge help for me and she is getting help from people other than her tired worn out mama. We also have a sophomore who the Lord gave us just because we deserved at least one low maintenance kid. She, although misses school tremendously and is typically very social, is doing well in school and needs nothing from me. Thankfully, because Geometry was not my strong point 2 decades ago and let’s be real my brain isn’t getting better with age. Then we have our darling 6th-grade son who is a middle school boy that breathes sarcasm and lacks any self-discipline and is pretty much driving me to drink. Love him. Love him. LOVE HIM. He’s very cute and one day we will be on a great terms again, but parenting him and being his teacher (aka enforcer) has been really hard on our relationship. Have I mentioned I also work from home?  I share all this with you to tell you my “tips” for this stage of parenting in this time of our world that is anything but unicorns and butterflies.

Cocktails. Yep, no shame in my cocktail game.

I have 5 wonderful recipes to pour yourself at the end of the day. Or save for the weekend. Or even after lunch. I’m not judging. We are in survival mode, friends, and I am here to help.
