Stop Hiding and Start Eating to Banish Breakouts!

EVMB BreakoutsWe have all heard about the myth that eating greasy french fries or too much chocolate causes your skin to breakout.  While there are foods that can cause inflammation in the body such as dairy, processed foods and foods high in sugar which cause spikes in blood sugar and trigger hormonal fluctuations.  The truth is that you should focus more on which foods you should eat for breakout prevention and this will lead you to a more balanced diet and a balanced complexion.

Certain foods are beneficial to the overall health of your body, skin and even hormonal balance.  If you aren’t eating these foods listed below, incorporating them into your diet could do wonders on acne prone skin.  Even if you only break out once a month during your monthly cycle, these foods could help in preventing the breakout or lessening the severity of your breakout.

  1. 1. Carrots!  Yes, just one raw carrot a day can help improve the condition of your skin.  Why, you may ask? Estrogen dominance is an underlying cause of PMS, menopausal symptoms, hormonal acne, infertility, and mood disorders.  Raw carrots contain a unique fiber that absorbs excess estrogen and helps sweep it out of the body.  Eliminating this excess estrogen in our body can help reduce acne breakouts!  Cool, right?!

I buy a package of carrots (not baby carrots) every week and peel 5 of them to eat each day so I don’t have to mess with peeling one each day and then I roast the rest of them in the oven and throw them in salads throughout the week.

2.Omega-3 rich foods are next on the list.  Think almonds, baked salmon and flax seed.  Omega-3 fatty acids help reduce inflammation and improve acne breakouts.  I enjoy eating baked salmon a few times a week, adding  1 T ground flax seed in my smoothies or protein pancakes and almonds are a great snack with a little fruit like strawberries or blueberries (dark-colored berries contain phytonutrients which are great for skin).

3.Probiotics play a big role too!  Since pre and probiotics can reduce inflammation in the gut and oxidative stress, scientists believe they may help reduce acne breakouts.  I take a whole foods based probiotic before I go to bed each night.  Not only have I seen improvement in my skin since taking a daily probiotic but my digestive system is on point as well!  I am an ambassador for the amazing company, Life Equals, and they offer my readers a 75% discount to try out any of their products.  *Use my code: KariB75 for 75% off your entire first order.  I also use their women’s multi which is great for overall skin health.

4.Avocado is an amazing fruit loaded with healthy fats, Vitamin E and Vitamin C.  Avocado helps nourish the skin and keep it moisturized as well.

5.Red grapes contain natural antioxidants that can help with skin inflammation as well as with conditions like eczema or psoriasis. Plus, grapes have been known to help with side effects of allergic reactions on the skin.

Other factors contribute to breakouts such as genetics and the products you use on your skin.  Incorporating a clean and balanced diet can drastically help control your breakouts even when genetics are working against you.  It’s important to clean your skin clean by washing your face in the morning and before bed.
