SOS: Save Our Dry Skin

0

As the weather heats up here in Arizona, our skin feels the effects in a big way! Our climate is unforgiving and increased sun exposure can lead to a variety of different skin concerns including premature aging and skin cancer. Many clients will also report that their skin feels tight and dry. Sound familiar? Here’s a few tips on how you can save your dry skin as we head into the heat.

  1. Stay hydrated: Make sure you are drinking plenty of water. Water helps to plump your skin and hydrates your muscles. Tried of boring H2O? Try adding watermelon to you water bottle. Watermelon contains 92% water, Vitamin A, B6 and C – all skin loving!
  2. Skip the hot showers: Our skin has a protective barrier to lock in moisture to protect us from our environment. Hot showers can strip our skin’s barrier and natural oils resulting in dry skin. For the best body hydration in the shower, try using an argan oil shower gel.
  3. Moisturize: Find a good facial and body moisturizer that helps to retain moisture and protect the skin. In the summer, applying a nighttime moisturizer for added hydration is a great idea. Your skin definitely needs a boost of hydration that won’t leave it feeling greasy or heavy in the heat. If you have acne-prone skin, steer clear of chemical and heavy products in the summer and opt for lightweight and organic ones rich in antioxidants like green tea moisturizers and also natural anti-inflammatory face washes such as anti-acne goat milk soaps and aloe-vera gel natural cleansers.
  4. Serum: We love serums, especially hyaluronic acid serums. This powerhouse ingredient can hold 1000x its weight in moisture. This is a perfect serum for us desert dwellers. Apply your serum after you cleanse your dry skin and you’ll see a big difference in the tightness you feel. Our favorite serum is Rhonda Allison Hyaluronic Serum
  5. SPF: Basic rules of SPF is to wear at least an SPF 30, don’t leave home without it, and don’t forget to reapply. I’m such a huge supporter for SPF. Slather your family in it as much as possible to protect their skin from harmful rays. After a while, your kids will hold still while you apply it! Promise.
