What’s your mom fuel? Coffee? Yoga? Photography? Or, perhaps you’re like me and it’s makeup (and coffee and wine, too). Whatever your mom fuel is, I hope you remind yourself that you need it. I hope you never forget about what you love that belongs only to you. I hope it keeps you centered, keeps you motivated, and gives you a boost on those days when sleep is rare and patience is short. Let’s face it. Motherhood is the greatest and most rewarding gift, but it’s also the hardest.
I decided early on that I would never let go of my mom fuel. On the day my oldest son was born, as I was recuperating from a c-section in the hospital, I waddled over to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I was joyous, exhausted, nervous, excited, and feeling not-so-much like myself. I asked my husband to bring me my makeup bag. There I stood, putting makeup on as my darling newborn slept in the clear hospital bassinet. I made a promise to myself, that no matter what, I would always take at least 10 minutes to put some makeup on. Why? Because it makes me feel better. It reminds me of my favorite job in cosmetics that I loved (pre-boys era) that was only mine. It’s always been a creative outlet for me. And it served as a reminder that one day my goal was to start my own skin & beauty business (that day came this year!).
So, whatever your mom fuel is, I hope you never, ever let it go. And if you ever find yourself running low on gas, be sure to take a moment for yourself and remember those bright, little, adorable faces fuel our hearts and make everything worth it.
