5 Indoor Activities for Toddlers

1

So it’s officially summer in Arizona and the 100+ degree temps are here to stay. By now it is too hot to go outside, too hot to swim because the pool water feels more like a jacuzzi. Now is the time to stay inside, soak up the AC and attempt to entertain the kids. It is not easy and sometimes I feel more like a cruise director than a mom, but I’ve come up with a few of our favorite indoor activities that help us get through the day (and away from the TV!).

Play Doh

I’m not sure what it is about this stuff, but my kids can play with it for a few hours at a time. It is relatively inexpensive and the time spent playing is worth the mess. I try to save it for the days I vacuum the house and waiting until it dries makes all the difference.

Water table

We bought a $30 water table last summer and it was too hot to use outside, so I put down a few beach towels and let the kids have at it in the kitchen. If you don’t want to buy a water table, some buckets and a few water toys will do the trick. Just don’t forget the towels.

Bath bombs

My kids go nuts for these. A midday bath breaks up the routine and it’s almost like going to the pool. They love the colored water and you don’t have to worry about reapplying the SPF! If you take a stroll down the bubble bath aisle at the store, there are so many fun bath things for the kids.

Forts

A few chairs and some blankets and my kids have a castle. It’s an oldie, but a goodie. If I throw a few books in the fort or a snack, it buys me some extended quiet time to get some stuff done or sneak a show I’ve been wanting to watch.

Dance party

When my kids have cabin fever and we’re all feeling antsy, I put on some music and we have a good old fashioned dance party. The cardio is good for me (take it where you can get it!) and the kids have fun being silly. It’s a good way to get out some energy and be a goofball with your kids!

  1. I love these ideas! I also love that on Saturdays Michael’s has a craft that is easy and super cute. It gets us out of the house and its IN THE AC. While I LOVE home depot crafts, there’s are only once a month and OUTSIDE.

We have a swamp cooler and when its 103 at 9am, I’m not about to build stuff outside with my 4 year old “honey badger on cocaine”. So, it was Michaels for us on Saturday!
