Halloween Family Favorite Movies | East Valley Moms Blog

Can you believe it’s October already!? The year is flying by and now it’s finally time for fall and fun stuff to do outside (FINALLY) and to leave the windows open for that breeze that has come!

One of our favorite family things is to do themed movie marathons! Star Wars Day is all about those movies and shows, Christmas (of course), and on someone’s birthday weekend we watch their favorite movies as well! It’s just kinda our thing to do. So with Halloween coming up we are in full blown “spooky” movie mode! I’ve made a list of our favorites to hopefully inspire your family to do your own marathon!

Nightmare Before Christmas

What happens when the Pumpkin King of Halloween decides he needs to try something new? After falling into the magical land of Christmas, a fun and exciting adventure ensues! My girls adore Jack Skellington, Sally, and the other fun characters of Halloween town and Christmas town. They love the songs and know almost all of the words and it’s just a good all around movie for kids and adults! The clay animation is just visually amazing and I like how fun it is.

Hocus Pocus

Where my 90s kids at??? Did anyone NOT watch and love this as a kid? Actually, don’t answer that, I want to believe we all loved it because it’s amazing! Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Majimy are just hilarious and perfect as the Sanderson sisters that want to have eternal youth and to gain it they need the souls of little children. It’s an action packed funny movie that has a good moral at the end of it as well about family.

Casper

Why are pretty much all the good ones from the 90s? Probably because we were the best kids ever hahaha But I digress, we all know the name Casper the Friendly Ghost but I just love this movie version of the classic. It’s got humor and heart and action all wrapped in a cold tingly ghostly package. Plus lezzbe honest, who doesn’t love Christina Ricci and Bill Pullman!? I also remember that I had a huge crush on the human version of Casper for most of my teenage years.

Halloweentown

A Disney Channel Original Movie AND IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST ONES OUT THERE!! In fact, it did so well they made 3 movies total AND there’s now a town in Oregon that decorates for the holiday every year in the exact replica of the real Halloweentown! A mom with a secret and a grandma willing to tell – and a girl just wanting to be special. Another “coming of age” story but for witches and warlocks alike.

Corpse Bride

Tim Burton clay animation movie and while it’s not technically SET for Halloween it gives off enough of a creepy haunted vibe that you can definitely count it among your favorites for the holiday! Victor Van Dort is set to marry Victoria Everglot but after running away from the wedding rehearsal to practice his vows ends up MARRIED to a CORPSE! This movie is full of fun songs and the animation is stunning! My girls aso have all of these songs memorized and think Emily (the Corpse Bride) is one of the coolest characters on the planet)

What holiday movies do you have on your list??
