Transitioning to Fall w/ the Third Piece Rule

I can just start to feel it, Summer is over, school has started, and our triple digits are nearing an end.

Pumpkin spice drinks have made their appearance and I’ve already baked a pumpkin related treat.

Fall is here Ya’ll!!

While temperatures will still be on the hotter end its time we all break out our favorite fall fashions.

Have you heard of the third-piece rule?

Its where you take your favorite “momiform”- maybe jeans and a t-shirt (my all time favorite) and add a third piece to jazz it up. It pulls the whole look together, makes it more polished, and cost effective, win-win. You can transition to fall without spending a ton of money.

Some pieces you might grab to add are- jackets, cardigans, vests, hat, necklace, or scarf.

You can even go for a fourth or fifth piece to take it that much further. Even adding a bold lip color counts as a piece in my book, its not something I can pull off everyday for sure.

Heres a few ideas to get you started and take a look at our Pinterest board for even more.

– Probably the easiest and most Arizona friendly with all this heat. Add a scarf over a basic tee or a button up tied around the waist. Check out Pinterest for different ways to wear a scarf.
– Adding a vest over a long sleeve or a dress or a cardigan to the typical “momiform” dresses up the outfit just a tad more.
– Probably my most favorite, adding a jacket to any outfit. Utility jackets and leather are two trends I’m loving this fall.
– Another easy add are accessories. A bold necklace takes a day look to night, and a fedora can double adding that extra pop to the outfit AND cover up hair you haven’t gotten to washing yet.
– Bold lip- Something that can me used as a fourth or fifth piece in an outfit. Step outside your comfort zone and add a bright lip for date night, or to take a stroll around target and sip a PSL.
I hope you try out the “Third Piece Rule” if you don’t already, and use some of these ideas to help.
