The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk shines a light on blood cancers and honors those fighting the disease, those who have won the battle against the disease and those who have been lost due to the disease. This fundraising campaign carries with it a powerful message – to end cancer through the efforts of families and the community by bringing awareness to blood cancers and providing hope.
Leukemia is the most common cancer amongst adolescents; ages 20 and younger. Due to the nature of treatment, although highly advanced in recent years, children are often struggling with reentrance into school during remission which brings about great challenges both socially and academically.

Take Jack for example, his family has been battling Leukemia with him since he was 4 years old in 2011. Jack is still fighting and with every day he “strikes back” against the disease with his positive attitude and “Jedi” spirit. He has a longstanding and powerful presence at the Light the Night Walk with his Star Wars themed team “Jack Strikes Back.” He has led previous runs accompanied by Storm Troopers and many friends and family members. Jack proves you can educate others on the seriousness of finding a cure while still seeing the disease from a child’s prospective which is often hard to visualize.  Find out more about Jack and his fight against Leukemia on www.carepages.com search jackstrikesback1
It’s time for you to join me and so many others in the community, and get involved! Like Jack’s family, mine has also been through the tribulations of Leukemia. My father is a survivor and I can truly attest to the fact that a positive outlook, knowledge and support are all key in winning the battle against blood cancer.
