The Art of Thanksgiving Fashion

Oh, Thanksgiving. A time for food, family and fashion. But here in Phoenix, sometimes the fashion piece is the biggest controversy at the table. Some years it’s unseasonably warm, some years it’s cool and the other years fall somewhere in the middle. Throw in being a mom on top of that and now you’re trying to balance cute and functional all while knowing you’ll end up with at least two stains on you before dinner even starts!

Mastering what to wear on Thanksgiving can be tough. Knowing how to balance weather with comfort while still looking chic is achievable.  At East Valley Moms Blog, we’re here to help! I’ve come up with three simple rules to stay on track when it comes to choosing your holiday ensemble.

  1. Comfort – Being comfortable is key on Thanksgiving! Eating a huge meal can leave your pants feeling a bit tight. Choose items that are going to flatter and give you room should you indulge in that extra slice of pumpkin pie!
  2. Camouflage – I don’t necessarily mean the pattern! Picking prints and patterns that hide stains is a great way to keep your outfit intact all day. With little ones running around and sweet potatoes being passed, someone’s bound to spill!
  3. Layers – Like I mentioned, weather in the Valley of the Sun can be tricky. Layering is a perfect way to include an extra piece to keep warm in the cool mornings and evenings. A scarf can be worn around the neck or draped over the shoulders and adds a classic touch of fall fashion.

In addition to the fashion tips, here is a quick roundup of my favorite Thanksgiving Day looks. {Click an item for the link to shop}

The first outfit is what I like to call “My job at holidays is to look the best and drink the wine”. For those of us lucky enough to not lift a finger on Turkey Day, this style is for you. You’re pulling off the dress and heels and not worrying about catching your sleeve on fire while finishing the gravy.

The second look is “Hostess with the Mostest”. You’ve been prepping and planning for this day all year. You’ve timed all of the sides to finish right when the turkey comes out and you’re not breaking a sweat. Since you’re cooking, entertaining and doing it all, jeans and a cute but functional top are your go-to pieces, complete with comfy flats.

The last look can be titled “Football, family and food”. You’re the kind of gal that prefers to be comfortable all day. Lounging, tossing the football and napping are your favorite Thanksgiving Day activities and you don’t want to be restricted because of fashion. You prefer the comfort of joggers, a pullover and sneakers.

Whatever your Thanksgiving Day entails, you can look and feel amazing long after the leftovers are put away and the Christmas commercials start rolling. Stay comfy, stay chic and Happy Thanksgiving!
