Summer Pregnancy Survival Tips

The weather is warming up! Are you ready for it? My baby is now 7 months old and just thinking back to being pregnant through last summer makes me hot! Are you pregnant? Will you be here in the Phoenix area all summer? If so, here are some helpful tips to get you through the next few scorching months. (These tips apply even if you’re not pregnant, but still need to survive the hot hot summer.)

  • Water water water!! You can never drink too much water. If you don’t already have one, go buy a reusable water bottle. I find that the best indicator of how much water I drink throughout the day is how many times I fill up my bottle. The more times I fill it up the better I feel!
  • Invest in a cute and fun maternity bathing suit. Use it daily if possible. Jump in the pool to not only cool off, but to take some of the weight and pressure off that growing body of yours (your hips will thank me later). By investing in a suit that you love you will want to show off that beautiful baby bump as much as possible.
  • While on the subject of shopping, go buy a couple of summer dresses. Target usually has some great ones as well as Old Navy (make sure you check online too). Dresses are the best because you don’t have anything around your waist and you don’t have to think about putting together a whole outfit.
  • Do your best to make weekly meal plans. There is nothing worse than 5:00 rolling around and you’re stuck wondering what to make when your hot and sweaty and nauseous. By making weekly meal plans it reduces your trips out to the car and you can plan yummy and healthy dishes in advance.
  • Make an effort to be social. Whether you work all day or your home with other kids, it’s important to either go on dates with your man or out for a girls night. It will distract you from the heat and also give you something to look forward to.
  • If you can, get away for an entire weekend (or just a Saturday). The temps are always cooler up north and there are some beautiful places to visit that aren’t too far away.
  • The biggest tip I can offer to you is to be prepared for a high utility bill. I was shocked in the difference between our bills the month before I had our baby and the month after. Money well spent!

Hope these tips help you in some way or another. Good luck and have fun getting ready for your new baby!
