Spring Break Bucket List

0

Spring break is a time when the kids are out of school getting that much needed break from academics, and when the “I’m bored” talk begins! My son is always happy to get any break from school and he does love lounging around and doing nothing…for a short amount of time and then all I hear is, “Mommy, I’m bored.” That phrase actually makes me cringe because how can kids be bored nowadays with all of the technology right at their finger tips? I believe it is because even that gets old after awhile. I still incorporate things that I did as a child into my son’s life so he can understand that not everything in life is about being in front of a computer, iphone, or video game. So here is my Spring Break Bucket List. Many of these are tried and true and many of them are new things I want to do this spring.

Arizona Spring Break Bucket List

1.  Take a hike! This is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time and I have heard many recommendations for Usery Mountain Regional Park. For other family friendly hiking areas click here. 10 Best Family Hikes in Phoenix

  1. Tempe History Museum – My son and I discovered this museum last summer and fell in love! They have traveling exhibits and interactive games and play areas for kids of all ages and best of all it is always free! Starting March 11 there will be free outdoor family friendly concerts.
  2. Sleep in past 6am!!!
  3. Plant a flower or vegetable garden with your kids. My son loves seeing the whole process of how herbs and vegetables grow.
  4. Board Games – I love the nostalgia of playing board games. Play a different game with your child(ren) every day. They will love the interaction.
  5. Volunteer at Feed My Starving Children – an invaluable learning experience for all kids
  6. Visit the Arizona Museum of Natural History otherwise known as the “Dinosaur Museum.” I purchased a year pass for Christmas and there are a ton of interactive things for kids of all ages.
  7. Go on nightly walks through the neighborhood.
  8. Go to Target and buy something everyday! (A girl can dream can’t she?)
  9. Have a lazy day where you lounge around in jammies, do nothing, and watch movies or do a Netflix binge.
  10. Bake cookies or try out a new recipe…get the kids involved!
  11. Plan to eat dinner nightly as a family (we always do this and I love it), try out new dinner recipes I’ve been wanting to try now that I have some time.
  12. Explore Arizona! There are so many cool day trips to take with the family to Jerome, Sedona, Flagstaff, or Petrified Forest just to name a few.
  13. Speaking of Flagstaff….drive there for some cooler temps and to eat at Brandy’s for breakfast and Fratelli’s Pizza for lunch. And yes, I would seriously drive there to eat at my favorite places!
  14. Do some leisurely shopping and then eat lunch at Barnone!
  15. Go to Goldfield Ghost Town….I have been wanting to take my son here forever!
  16. Attend the Renaissance Festival. My son has been asking when we can go for months now.
  17. Check out the new OdySea Aquarium in Scottsdale.
  18. Check out the Phoenix Zoo or Wildlife World Zoo. My son absolutely loves spending the day at the zoo and I love taking advantage of the cooler spring air!
  19. Check out the local library to find some good spring break reading. This is a great habit for the kids to get into also.

I hope I have given you some great ideas for this upcoming spring break. I have a ton of things, hopefully I will be able to do most of them. I guess I have a little bit of “mom guilt” for being such a lazy bum during Christmas break. I would love to hear any of your ideas you have planned for Spring Break!
