As the weather heats up, why not celebrate the last temperate days of spring with a free outdoor concert and fun family activities?  On Saturday May 3, Eastmark, a new community in Mesa near Phoenix-Mesa-Gateway airport, is celebrating the opening of the community’s new event pavilion with an all-day, free, outdoor music concert.

Event Pavilion

The new pavilion is located in the new Eastmark Great Park,  the sprawling 100-acre central park of the community.  The concert will feature four of the East Valley’s favorite bands, local bands and food trucks.  East Valley Mom’s blog interviewed, Suzanne Walden-Wells, director of community life at Eastmark, about what families can expect at the May 3rd, Party @ The Pavilion.

East Valley Mom’s Blog: Why hold a Party @ The Pavilion?

Suzanne Walden-Wells: For months, the new event pavilion has been rising out of the ground in The Eastmark Great Park and this event will celebrate the newest amenity in Eastmark and in the City of Mesa. The Party at the Pavilion will allow families from all around to come and enjoy a free day of local music.

EVMB: What can families expect at the Party at the Pavilion?

Walden-Wells: From 11am – 2pm, we will be hosting some of the area’s best school bands and choruses. From 2pm-8pm, the stage will be rocking with four of the East Valley’s favorite bands on stage for dancing and fun! From jazz, to blues, to great covers of more recent dance music, there will be something for every music lover! There will be great local food trucks selling favorite treats so people can make their own picnic or just grab a dessert to enjoy!

EVMB: What activities will there be for children at the party?

Walden-Wells: Eastmark’s Splash Pad with multiple water sprays to cool off youngsters will be open.  Parents can relax and socialize in nearby chairs.  Grand Canyon University’s mascot, Thunder, will entertain kids from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Within walking distance, there are a number of parks in the Eastmark neighborhoods and a basketball court.

EVMB: What kind of food will be available for purchase?

Walden-Wells: Four East Valley food trucks including Superstition Farm’s SuperFarm SuperTruck and Udder Delights will serve tasty food. Udder Delights is known for yummy ice cream. In addition, families can bring their own food and beverages in accordance with the City of Mesa’s regulations.

EVMB: Will there be any free items available at the party (i.e. giveaway promo trinkets, water, etc.)?

Walden-Wells: There will be lots of Eastmark Frisbees for the first few hundred kids. In addition, water will be provided for free.

EVMB: What tips do have for families attending the event?

Walden-Wells: This is a perfect late spring family outdoor concert event. Come and check out local talent throughout the afternoon and enjoy a relaxing picnic dinner. Bring lawn chairs, a blanket, water and sunscreen. You can also pack your own picnic or snacks if you wish. Dogs are welcome. Parking is easy but the earlier you arrive, the better. Bring cash or
credit cards to the Party to purchase food and beverages. There is no ATM at the event.

Party @ The Pavilion will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 11AM to 8PM.  The pavilion is located at 10100 East Ray Road in Mesa, Arizona.  Performances will include Cold Shott and the Hurricane Horns, Kool Band, Silhouette Band, and Static Band.  In addition, Highland High School Symphonic Strings and Basis Band will be performing. Enjoy those last days of beautiful weather outside at a concert in the park.
