It is odd for me to work on a fabric project and not use my sewing machine. However I thought it would be fun to challenge myself on this project and use some different supplies. I found a few great products at Hobby Lobby that assisted me in this challenge.
Here is what you will need:
-Rolls of Burlap, I found rolled burlap in a variety of sizes and shapes. I bought the largest roll 15′ long by 12″ wide.
-Chevron rolled Burlap
-Ruffled trim, found in the ribbon section
-wonder under or other fusible interfacing (you can also use fabric glue)
-freezer paper
-fabric paint
Here is the process:
1. Begin by cutting out your letters on the freezer paper. I used my Silhouette machine but you can also use an exact-o knife. Iron your freezer paper onto the burlap to hold it in place.
2. Using the fabric paint, paint over the letters onto the burlap. Let it dry completely, then peel it off the burlap.
3. Cut strips the entire width of the burlap and about 1 inch wide out of the wonder under. Iron 1 strip onto the bottom of the burlap leaving about 2 inches from the bottom. Peel the paper off the wonder under and place your chevron striped burlap onto the wonder under. Iron it in place (this will make the chevron stick to the burlap).
4. Place another stripe of wonder under on top of the chevron burlap and iron in place. Remove the paper then place the ruffled trim on top of the wonder under stripe and iron in place. Repeat with the other side.
Now you have a great table runner for fall.
