Ideas for Your Next (Nearby!) Couples Vacation

I am a huge advocate for taking couples vacations. I think they are just as important as taking family vacations. It is important to sp
end time with your spouse, without kids hanging on you, interrupting every conversation, and constantly needing something from you. I know it can be so hard to leave your kids behind and its easy to feel guilty for having these experiences without them. In the beginning, I felt bad for leaving my kids behind while my husband and I went on vacation. But I also knew it was something that definitely benefited our marriage and relationship with our kids as well. My kids think it is awesome that they get to go hang out with grandma and grandpa and we usually bring them back some kind of souvenir. Even if you don’t have kids, I think it is important to step away from the hustle and bustle of life and experience some one on one time with your partner.

There are many great destinations for a couples vacation. Whether it be long or short, you can make anything work.  Luckily we have some great local hotels that are great for staycations for those times when you just need a quick getaway. It’s easy to step into a hotel or resort and feel like you are far from home. I have also found you can usually find deals on local resorts during the off season, so that is typically when my husband and I like to plan our getaways.

If you’re looking to actually get out of the city, but still stay close, Arizona is home to so many beautiful places. Flagstaff, Sedona, Payson and Bisbee are just a few of the many beautiful places that are perfect for a couples get away. My husband and I enjoyed a bed in breakfast in Flagstaff. It was something that we had never done before, but in the end we were glad that we did.

We have also done several trips to surrounding states: California, Nevada, and Utah. We are lucky to be located near so many great destinations, that are fairly easy to get to and that can be kept inexpensive or as expensive as you want. My husband and I have only ever done shorter trips close to home, but one day when my kids are a little older, we hope to travel to somewhere a little farther away.

What is the most fun trip you’ve taken as a couple? If you have to think too hard about it, maybe it’s time to plan something!
