Galentine’s Day: Ideas for celebrating friendships

0

Any Parks and Recreation fan knows about Galentine’s Day (only the best day of the year). But even if you’ve never seen the show, Galentine’s Day is a tradition every woman can get behind: celebrating your lady friendships.

As much as I love my husband, there are some things only my girlfriends understand, and I find this to be especially true after having kids. It’s so important to have time every now and then with just the ladies to talk, cry, laugh and focus on each other – no kids, no husbands.

If you are a resident of Pawnee, Indiana, you would celebrate your girlfriends on Feb. 13 over breakfast – but for anyone else, this can be done any day and in a variety of ways. Here are a few ideas.

Getaways

I was lucky this past year to be able to take a weekend trip with my girlfriends to Cottonwood, where we canoed on the river, tried new restaurants, went wine tasting, and explored Jerome. Short trips or even staycations are a great option if you have the time! From Bisbee to Flagstaff, there are plenty of places to explore in Arizona just a short drive from the East Valley. Just the car ride alone is a great time to catch up on each other’s lives!

Staycations

If you can only get away for one night, consider a local resort hotel. Think – nice dinner, spa time, staying up late gabbing and laughing. Once my friends and I got a vacation rental in town for the weekend, and the husbands took it Friday night and the wives took it Saturday night. Everybody wins!

Brunch

I love going out to breakfast, but it’s not a big deal to my husband. If I can clear a morning and have a delicious brunch, great conversation, and maybe a mimosa or two, I’m in. Follow it up with pedis? Even better.

GNO

Take an evening for Girls’ Night Out and celebrate with dinner, a rom-com, dancing, cocktails, a new museum exhibit, or an activity. Some options include Pinspiration, As You Wish, painting and wine, or making windchimes at Ben’s Bells. Find other BFF Date Night Ideas here!

Quick date

Short on time? Meet up for a quick coffee, soda, dessert or cocktail after you tuck the kids into bed. An hour of girl time is better than no time at all!

Tokens of appreciation

Sometimes you just can’t get your schedules to align. Make a plan for a few weeks down the road, but write your friends a note telling them why you appreciate having them in your lives, and what a great job they are doing as moms.
