From Downton Abbey to Mouseton Abbey

“Downton Abbey” Season 5 premiered Sunday on PBS {channel 8 here in the Valley} and it certainly didn’t disappoint.  Mary was propositioned, Thomas was up to his dirty tricks, Edith has a few secrets, and when a fire broke out in the abbey, Thomas was there to save the day {insert eye roll.}  If you haven’t jumped on the “Downton Abbey” bandwagon yet, you can catch up by getting the discs from Netflix or by purchasing the seasons from Google Play or iTunes.  The seasons are short, typically eight episodes each, so start binge watching now!

Once you’re addicted, you’re kids will be fully aware of your love for all things “Downton Abbey.”  Sharing is caring, so why not pick up “Mouseton Abbey – The Missing Diamond”  by Nick Page, for the kiddos!  We purchased this book at a Scholastic Book Fair at my daughter’s school, but you can purchase it from Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Target or Wal-Mart.

Mouseton Abbey

We’ve had a giggle or two over the character names and the happenings at this particular abbey which at one point was owned by The Stinky Brotherhood of the Holey Goatscheese.  Now home to Lord Roquefort and his family {wife Lady Brie, and daughters Lady Ricotta, Lady Mozzarella and Lady Fontina}  the abbey is full of secrets and adventure.  Sounds familiar…

Cheesemas is coming and Lord Roquefort has forgotten about it.  In his panic to alert the staff and make the Cheesemas Pudding, he loses the family’s Great Big Cheesy Diamond.  The diamond is an integral part of their Cheesemas traditions.  With the help of his family and his staff, including, Wensleydale the butler,  Miss Swiss the housekeeper, and Mrs. Cheshire the cook, Lord Roquefort sets out to find the missing diamond.

Mouseton Abbey 2

I don’t want to spoil the ending for you, but as with the television show, all is well in the abbey when the book is over.  For more fun “Downton Abbey” goodies, check out World Market for collectibles including tea, jam, scone mix, tea cups and more.   My daughter got me the Republic of Tea Downton Abbey Gift Box for Christmas.  She knows me well!

Remember to keep your pinkies up when drinking your tea:)
