Fun Things to Do in Arizona During Fall Break

As much as children enjoy fall break, it can cause a problem for parents who have to keep everyone busy for a week. Interrupting the family routine can be a frustrating experience. For those parents whose children have two weeks off (yikes), the challenge is even greater. Of course, it is ideal to travel to places like San Diego, but not everyone can do so. Fortunately, there are plenty of activities and events to choose from right here in Arizona.

VISIT A PUMPKIN PATCH

There are a variety of pumpkin patches and fall festivals taking place throughout the Valley in October. These are a lot of fun because there’s so much to do. Even if you’re not into decorating pumpkins, between the games, rides, mazes, hayrides and other activities, everyone can find something to enjoy. Check out a great list of festivals and pumpkin patches in our guide to pumpkin picking, and also fun family events in our October monthly guide for fun in the east valley

ENJOY LOCAL ATTRACTIONS

Yes, I know that these places will probably be crowded, but if you’re going to stay in town, it’s just something you’ll have to deal with.  Take a look at their event calendar to see what special events or activities will take place during fall break.  If you don’t have a membership, be sure to check out coupon and deal sites to save money on tickets.

SEND YOUR CHILD TO CAMP

Your local parks and recreation department may have fall break camps, in addition to places like the i.d.e.a. Museum or Arizona Science Center.  These camps are often inexpensive and provide an opportunity for attendees to have fun while participating in enriching activities.

GO TO THE FAIR

The Arizona State Fair takes place in October, and it’s a great way to make memories with your family.  For some, it’s an annual tradition.  The fair is about much more than rides – this is a place where you can see animals and livestock, see local acts perform, eat food that is very bad for you, watch races, and check out a concert.

HANG OUT AT THE LIBRARY

Your local library already has plenty of events going on, but fall break gives you more free time to take advantage of them.  The events are geared to children of all ages and can range from playing games, crafting, and even watching movies.

EXPLORE ARIZONA

Even if you’re not able to travel out of state, you can still have a day trip or mini vacation right here in Arizona.  There are plenty of things to do and see in Sedona, Flagstaff, Tucson, or other areas of our beautiful state.  Even if you don’t do anything that is particularly exciting, a change in scenery is always good.

Fall break is an opportunity to relax and have some family fun, and with proper planning, it can be a positive experience for everyone.  There’s no need to stress; I hope these suggestions will help you have a great time and create wonderful memories!
