Carving Out Time to get Creative

Fall is officially here and that means Halloween is just around the corner. I have always loved taking the time to make memories and carve up some pumpkins! Last year a large group of us got together at the park to let the kids play and then decorate pumpkins. Many of them to young to carve a pumpkin, so it was stickers and paint. This was such a fun night with friends that we are making it a yearly tradition! (nobody has to clean their house and the kids get to run around, win for everyone!) For those of you with older kids this is a great time to sit around the table with your kids and make memories.

3 Tips for Picking a Good Pumpkin for Carving

There’s no such thing as a “perfect” pumpkin, but there are some things you can look for to make sure you get off to a great start.

  • Keep an eye out for gouges or blemishes as you want to start with as smooth of surface as you can find.
  • Look for a pumpkin with even color and firm flesh.
  • Buy from a local pumpkin patch. This means your pumpkin has been recently picked and will last longer once cut into.

I’m not the most creative person, so I like to create a Pinterest board and see is new each year. Here are my favorites! (click on each picture to get all the details on how to make)

Ready to get a little messy? This next one allows your little to paint the pumpkin all one color and then see the amazement of watching the color from crayons melt to create a one of a kind design. Even better find some glow in the dark crayons to melt!

These next 2 are ones that made me think of one of my sons first movie we went to see (Despicable Me 3) and my nieces are in love with unicorns

Lastly, I always like the tradition of carving a pumpkin and cleaning out the pumpkin seeds to roast and snack on for the next couple of days. Here are some easy designs that you can trace or tape onto your pumpkin to create the exact design that you want!
