Book Club Book Ideas

If you’re in a book club, or you want to start one, it may seem obvious, but you’ll need something to read {and you have to make sure it’s something good!}  My neighbors and I have wanted to start a book club for quite a while now, but it never came to fruition.  I suggested we try again, and we have managed to scrape together a few people, so our book club was born!

Book Club

I got the idea after reading an article about Reese Witherspoon’s Instagram, and how she has turned it into a virtual book club.  She’s becoming her own lifestyle brand with her Southern charm, Draper James clothing line, and her down-to-Earth approachability; making Reese much less controversial than her counterpart, Gwyneth Paltrow.

Here are some suggestions for book club selections {you may see some of them on Reese’s list as well}:

  1.  The Rosie Project – When I see this book I think it must be about Rosie O’Donnell but that’s totally not what this book is about!  It is about Dan Tillman, a professor who has never been on a second date.  He embarks on a quest to find out if he is capable of finding true love and in the process finds out love may not always be what you expect it to be.
  2.  The Girl on the Train – This psychological thriller is about Rachel, the girl on the train.  The same train every day, passing the same landmarks, and picking up the same people also on their daily commute.  That is until one day when Rachel sees something she can’t keep to herself, so she reports it to the police, thus opening a can of worms she’s not sure she should have opened in the first place.
  3. Me Before You – This is the story of Lou Clark and Will Traynor.  Two people who don’t know what to expect out of life, when a chance meeting changes not only their lives, but themselves.  This book has just been turned into a movie opening on June 3rd, so if you’re the type of person who likes to read the book before seeing the movie {me!} then you better get on it!
  4. What Alice Forgot – This book is about Alice, who hits her head and loses consciousness, but when she wakes up thinking her life is one thing, she learns she’s about a decade behind and her life is anything but what she thought it was.  This is what my book club is currently reading, and so far it’s really good!
  5. All the Light We Can Not See – This Pulitzer Prize winning novel is about a blind French girl who meets a German boy in occupied France during World War II, and their shared experience of trying to survive.

Let me know what you’re reading!
