Before having kids, I always enjoyed going out to eat. Now that we have kids, it makes dining out a bit harder, and having a child with food allergies makes it even more difficult. It is estimated that nearly 1 in 13 children have a food allergy. Having an infant with a dairy allergy and a husband with shellfish allergy, we venture around the valley looking for accommodating restaurants for our family.
Pizza
My husband and I both could eat pizza 2-3 nights a week if we could. Our two favorite pizza restaurants that we frequently dine at it would definitely be MOD Pizza and NYPD Pizza. Both locations offer gluten free crust, and dairy-free cheese! My husband’s favorite thing about Mod Pizza is definitely the unlimited amount of toppings.
Italian
If you’re craving Italian food, I highly suggest checking out Picazzo’s! It was New Time’s Best of Phoenix’s Best Gluten-Free Restaurant! They also have vegan and vegetarian items on the menu, which is a win for our family.
Sandwiches
Ike’s Love and Sandwiches, as well as Jason’s Deli are up next on my list. Jason’s Deli has an awesome online Special Diet’s Wizard to help eliminate what foods you need to avoid when ordering. They also have a special Gluten-Sensitive Kit when preparing your GF meal! Ike’s offers gluten-free bread, dairy free options, and has a fun kid’s menu as well.
Downtown Gilbert
We live less than 5 miles from Downtown Gilbert, and one of our favorite local restaurants to eat at is Liberty Market. Like the other place’s we choose to eat out, Liberty Market has plant-based menu items, as well as gluten-free. The items are clearly marked on the menu as vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or gluten-free with modification. My favorite is to order the Vegan American Standard with gluten-free toast!
Another Downtown Gilbert location we like to frequently visit is Zinburger. They also have other locations in Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Tucson! Zinburger offers a range of salads, a veggie burger patty, gluten-free bun, or the option to go bunless!
Lucky for us and other families, there are plenty of allergy friendly restaurants in the valley!
