A Stress Free Toddler Birthday Party

Toddler Party

In a perfect world I would plan a perfect birthday party. Every last detail would be planned at least a month in advance. The invitations would go out with plenty of time for friends to RSVP. The decorations would match the invitations, which would match the cake, which would match the party bags, etc. Sadly I don’t live in a perfect world. Instead I live in a small apartment rental, living on a tight budget, with a dependent 7 month old and an independent two year old, and a husband who is in the thick of tax season at work. That being said there is no reason that I can’t plan a fun birthday party that is completely stress free. (I’m a sucker for birthdays, always have been and always will be.)Toddler Party

Here are the steps I took for this super fun 2nd birthday party.

  1. Find a birthday buddy to do the birthday with. My daughter’s little friend turned 2 eleven days before my daughter.
  2. Pick a random week day morning that works for you and your birthday buddy. Unless your husband wants to be involved, don’t push it. We did a family birthday celebration on her actual birthday.
  3. Find a convenient location that has enough entertainment for all potential kids at the party. We picked the new Riverview Park by the Cubs stadium in Mesa. We chose it for the splash pad. You guys, the splash pad is gated so your kids (especially mine) can’t run away! There are all sorts of playground equipment to keep the older kids entertained.
  4. Set out a Facebook event invite and an email to your non Facebook friends. We also mentioned to our friends that we didn’t need gifts. Since we were inviting different groups of friends we didn’t want them to feel awkward getting gifts for both kids.
  5. Show up about ten minutes early with some treats and balloons. I brought mini waterbottles and doughnut holes (from Bosa, so good). My friend brought Go Gurts and also stopped and got some balloons on her way.
  6. Spend an hour talking with your friends and watching the kids play in the water. Clean up the snacks. Go home!

Everyone who came had a great time. It included everything my daughter loves: the splash pad, her friends, and doughnuts. Like I said, we did a little family party on her actual birthday with a few presents and some cake and it was great. I can’t believe my sweet girl is already two!
