Perhaps it was a holiday gift, a Black Friday purchase for yourself or maybe you’re like a few of my friends and you have one sitting at the top of a closet that you purchased way back on Prime Day. Either way you are probably wondering how the heck you use this “magical” cooking device and when you’ll find time to figure it out.

Well, I’m here to get you started! If you’re like me (and I’m betting you are) you probably opened the box, pulled out the instruction booklet, read the first few pages then set it aside to finish later? It’s probably sitting on a pile of papers on your counter, right? My guide isn’t a replacement to those instructions (You should still read all the safety stuff in there!) but more of a getting started guide.

    • Hi Connie!

Some of the preset functions will use low pressure on their own (like the rice button). But if you need to manually switch for a recipe all you would need to do is press the “pressure” button – that will change it between high and low (there is no medium).

There aren’t many instances where you’ll likely use low pressure, since high pressure cooks things faster. The Kitchn has a great article detailing the ins and outs of pressure in this article if you’d like to read more about it: http://www.thekitchn.com/when-to-use-high-or-low-pressure-on-the-instant-pot-236432
