Schools Out for Summer | Summer Bucket

0

“School’s out for summer…” Come on, you know the song! It’s the beginning of summer; a celebration of having no more school days, sleeping in, swimming, and literally roasting in the hot, Arizona sun! Most of us parents are crawling over the finish line (with our students) for the end of school days. We have barely survived the last quarter of at home projects, book reports, standardized state testing, teacher appreciation week, and awards ceremonies. Now we can relax, kick back, and enjoy our long, hot summer days. Two weeks in, and that excitement is fading as your kids are “bored”!

It has become a tradition in my household to receive a “Summer Bucket” after dismissal on the last day of school. This is one thing my son really looks forward to receiving every year! I try to fill this bucket with things that we can do over the summer. I mainly go to the Dollar Tree for lots of different swimming related items, and Target dollar spot…because that is my second home! (Ok, I’m getting excited just thinking about Target 🙂

ITEMS I INCLUDE IN THE SUMMER BUCKET

  • A watch (because he really wanted one and finished the school year strong)
  • Pool floaties and noodles
  • Beach balls for the pool
  • Dive rings
  • Books for summer reading
  • Chapstick
  • Water guns
  • Tiki cup for lemonade by the pool
  • Items for gardening
  • Annual pass to museum
  • Summer movie passes

You get the idea…any little items I can find in the dollar section that I think will be useful over the summer, I put in the bucket. I also make a little “Summer Bucket List” of things we want to do, places we would like to go, and even summer movies to watch. The Disney movie “Summer Magic” and “Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter Is Dead” are always two movies we have to watch at the beginning of summer!

Another item I will include in my son’s bucket this year is the Summer Pass at Flipside. I reluctantly purchased it last year and it was one of the best purchases I made! It literally paid for itself within 3-4 visits! I will also include some movie passes or an annual pass to a museum. We try to do as many free things as we possibly can over the summer, but I will include a few passes that will keep us busy and out of the hot summer days.

I would love to hear what is on your Summer Bucket List!
