I try not to overwhelm myself and my kids during the holidays.  There are amazing events basically every day during the winter months that its hard not to get a serious case of FOMO.  I’m constantly telling my kids they don’t need to be doing big things to have a good time. Here is my simple winter bucket list.  Fun simple ideas that can be done at home, with a few adventures thrown in.  If we check it all off, great, if we don’t that’s great too!

Make a gingerbread house

A family favorite.  Gingerbread kit from the store equals a great night for me to let my kids personalities soar.  Of course the adults have theirs, that may take a few nights to complete to masterpiece.

Hang Ornaments

This one is always fun to watch.  Sometimes quite a few arguments of the perfect ornament placement happens, but for the most part its smooth sailing and the kids feel included in the holiday magic.  If you’re feeling extra craft try making some ornaments to hang.  Check out this pin from our Christmas Pinterest board for some ideas.

Drink Hot Cocoa

We’ll definitely be checking this one off multiple times.  You can really make this as big or as small as you want. Have a hot cocoa bar, make your own hot chocolate mix, or rip open a hot chocolate packet, my kids are always asking to drink hot chocolate the second the weather gets cooler.

Build a Snowman

You can drive to where to snow falls or head to the dollar store for some cotton balls, construction paper and paper plates.

Sing Carols

Singing songs gets our entire family in a good mood, especially when its holiday music.  I personally would love to be belting out Last Christmas over and over again at the top of my lungs 😉  Which brings me to the next item on the bucket list…

Make treats for neighbors

I personally feel like this is not done enough.  Maybe I’m just old fashion but gee wiz do I love getting a plate of delicious goodies from my friends and neighbors, and you bet I will be stopping by with some homemade goodness too. While you’re delivering would be a perfect time to sing some carols. 🙂

Go ice skating

This one is a stretch but whats a bucket list if there isn’t at least one item that would be something you’d never do or would like to attempt, and I know ice skating is one for my kids.  If we don’t get to it, maybe we’ll just go watch people try to ice skate, that could also be a super fun activity.

last but not least

Decorate sugar cookies

Oh sugar cookies how I adore you.  This is something I love baking and the kids really love throwing an obscene amount of sprinkles on to one cookie to perfect their masterpiece.  Last year I made dozens of sugar cookies and the kids decorated them and we gave those to our neighbors, they may look crazy but they tasted great and it got the kids involved in some service.

There you have it.  If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (airkaka87) you’ll definitely be seeing us checking off items on our simple winter bucket list.

What’s on your bucket list this year?
