I am on my own now, with both kids in school full time, and I want to make sure I am still sharing important milestones in their day. Part of that, is getting to know their friends and participating in activities that they love. Playdates are our perfect way to do just that, and we have one once a month on a Friday after school — we make them big and flashy, but also on a budget! I’m sharing with you TWO of our favorite playdates we’ve had so far this year, and instructions on how to prepare — they are so simple but super fun!

“A ‘MINION’ REASONS TO CELEBRATE IT’S FRIDAY”

Snacks:

1.  Minion Trail Mix – Minion graham crackers, lemonheads and edible googly eyes

2.  Minion Twinkies

3.  Pineapple and blueberries

Crafts:

1.  Paint swatch Minion puppets – Get a variety of paint swatches in yellows and purples. Cut into strips and glue to popsicle sticks. Add googly eyes and let the kids draw silly faces on them. They can opt to leave off the popsicle stick and make bookmarks instead.

2.  Minion coloring sheets in a variety of designs, all available for free online!

3.  Playdoh area, with Minion cookie cutters

4.  Minion Fortune Tellers – I found this idea on pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/239113061442867169/

“ROCKIN’ AND ROLLIN’ THROUGH OUR FIRST MONTH OF SCHOOL”

Snacks:

1.  Popstar popcorn – I found colored popcorn and put it in bags with stars punched out at the top (these were in packs of 6 at the Dollar Store)

2.  Star shaped fruit wedges (watermelon works great for this)

3.  Pretzel rods dipped in chocolate and multicolored sprinkles (“drumsticks”)

Crafts:

1. Design your own guitar – I cut out different colored guitars from posterboard, you can use foamboard as well, but something stiff so the kids can pretend to use them.  I then bought a divided snack tray from the dollar store and filled it with different goodies to decorate the guitars: (see picture). We used multi colored popsicle sticks as the strings.

2.  Rock and Roll coloring sheets – found free online!

3.  You can play games at this playdate as well — some ideas are Dance Revolution Twister, Karaoke or Freeze Dance.
