Make it Monday-Wood Picture Boards

wood picture blocks 1Last week I had a last minute surprise. I thought of, planned, and threw a bridal shower in 1 week with a budget under $100. Crazy right? I still don’t know what I was thinking. Sometimes I have a tendency of getting wrapped up in the moment without thinking things all the way through. Good thing it was spring break and I didn’t have anything else planned. To top things off I also agreed to doing an engagement shoot for the happy couple two days before the shower. The shower was a surprise so while I was taking their pictures I had the brilliant idea of inviting the bride to come to my house on Thursday afternoon (the time of the shower) to see the pictures I took.

It was only half a lie. I decided to use their pictures as decorations for the shower. I hung the pictures from a banner and strung pictures along an empty frame. I also made some wood pictures boards. These are so easy to make and cheap, but perfect as home or shower decorations.

Here is what you need:
1. wood pieces. I used a piece that was 1″x 10″ x 12″. I actually found a board in the scrap pile at Home Depot and had them cut it into 5 pieces of varying sizes. They will cut it for free and the scrap pile is 70% off so it cost me $3. I like using a variety of sizes just to add some interest and create different size pictures. Another nice thing about the scrap pile is you can find warped pieces which stand up better.
2. A picture to fit the board.
3. Acrylic paint
4.Sander to sand down the wood piece (no splinters, ouchie)
5. Mod Podge
6. Ribbon
7. Hot glue gun or other glue

*optional- distressed ink pad, and rounded corner punch

How to make the Wood Picture Blocks:

1. Begin by sanding down your wood piece. Just a rough sand to get rid of any splinters. Wipe down the wood to get rid of any dust.

2. Using your acrylic paint cover the back, sides, and a square around the edges of the front side of the board.

3. Which you wait for the paint to dry you can use your punch to round off the edges of your picture and use the distress ink to skim the edges of the picture, giving it a burnt look.
4. Once the paint is dry apply Mod Podge to the front of your board. Place your picture down and Mod Podge over the top of the picture. Make sure you get all the bubbles out so that the picture is completely flat.
5. Let the picture dry completely. Now you can a any embellishments including your ribbon and a bow using hot glue or other glue.

These are perfect because you can put them anywhere in your house. Make one or a grouping to display.
