fun things in june

School is out or almost out for the summer. Some of us (ME) have yet to plan a fun filled summer for our kiddos who are going to be out of school. Fortunately for me there are a lot of free or almost free (cheap) things we can do here in the valley. Here’s the round up of some things we can do this June that’s almost free.

Town of Gilbert is amazing at hosting several fun events throughout town every month. I think they have it down to a tee and that is why it has earned its 8th year honor of being a playful city and was 22nd best place to live in the US. Woohoo!!

Here are a few things worth looking into while planning a fun filled June all within the east valley!

JUNE 5: Concert in the park:(located under the water tower at downtown Gilbert!)

Perfect time to order take out from nearby restaurants and sit out on a blanket with your family while enjoying FREE live music. There are tons of parking now that the parking structure is complete.

JUNE 7: Greenfield pool (SE corner of elliot and greenfield) will be hosting a kiddie carnival from 11am to 2pm Prices are $3 for adults and $1 per child

JUNE 10: Enjoy a cowboy breakfast cook out at Veterans Oasis park from 730-9am. Come see all the things you can make in a dutch oven, perfect time to get ideas on what you can make on your next camping trip!)

JUNE 13: How about some fishing lessons? Veterans Oasis Park will be hosting a free fishing clinic from 8-11am. Anyone over the age of 10 will need a fishing license but here’s the nice part, they will have the equipment your child might need there to use free of charge. Volunteers will teach you and or your kiddo(S) how to bait, cast a line and reel em in! Free of charge.

Movie night at the park at 740 pm and it will be at Gilbert Community center (NW Corner of Gilbert Rd & Elliot behind the Boys and Girls Club)

Movie of the month is Despicable me 2, the park’s proximity to great food is walking distance and think BBQ! 🙂

June 21: why not attend a pirate party from 11am-2pm at Williamsfield pool open for all ages. Prices are $3 for adults and $1 for kids.

Couldn’t make it to the pirate party??? Head out to a dive in movie instead! Pack your sandwiches and favorite drinks and head over to Mesquite Aquatic Center at 740pm to 10 pm and watch a movie while splashing around in the pool. Prices are $3 for adults and $1 for kids. Movie to be announced later.

Check out Erica’s post here about water play dates and locations all over the East valley. Oh and don’t forget your nearby libraries might also have some fun activities you can do. They too offer movie nights, story times, specialty clubs such as Lego, STEM or book club for all ages, summer reading programs and special events in collaboration with other companies, such as sub-zero ice-cream, Great Arizona puppet theater, chipotle and more.
