Easy Pumpkin Craft For The Non-Crafty Mom

East Valley Moms Blog Fall Pumpkin PaintingPumpkins, chalk paint, sponge brush, and glitter is all you need to create this easy but beautiful decoration.

Since Friday, September 22nd is the first day of fall, we better get started.  I had someone ask me, “wouldn’t the pumpkins rot if you made them too far in advance?”  If we put them outside, the answer is yes but if they stay indoors, an uncut pumpkin can last 2-3 months.  So…were golden and how dare anyone ask that again.  Is it ever too early for pumpkins??

Recently my family lived in Michigan, we relocated there for my husband’s job and stayed for about a year.  Since I didn’t work, I took on fun little projects like, painting old end tables and selling items that I didn’t use.  I love to purge so when I was bored, I’d raid my home and sell as much as I could before my husband got home.  Fall came around and I had left over paint, chalk paint specifically.

Trader Joe’s carries the cutest pumpkins in different shapes, sizes, and colors.  I bought a few smaller round ones and thought it would be fun to paint them.  Here’s the deal, I am not creative and I don’t have the patience to take on projects that require any amount of preciseness.  You can’t go wrong painting a pumpkin.  Plus, Ivy who was 2 years old at the time helped.  Since Fall is knocking at our door, it really is, it’s just disguised as Hades 102-degree brother, it’s time to pumpkin out my house.

Here is what you will need:

How To Do It:

Literally, all you do is place your pumpkins on a disposable material.  Squeeze or pour your paint into your dish.  Dip the sponge brush into the paint and proceed to painting the pumpkin.  While it’s still wet, carefully and conservatively, dust the top of the pumpkin with glitter.  Let dry.

Voila! You have instantaneous fall décor.  Paint one or get a few pumpkins that range in size, place them down the center line of your dining room table for an instant centerpiece.  Like I said before, I am not crafty and will never claim to be the “go to” girl on this topic but this little project was fun, simple, and the finished product is pretty great.  Happy Pumpkin Painting!
