Date Night Remix: Making Date Night Fun Again!

date night

Are you tired of the usual dinner and a movie date night?  It can still be fun…but it sure can get boring after awhile!

We all know that when you are in a long-term relationship-whether it be 10 months or 10 years-date night can become stale. With a little creativity you can take your ordinary date night and make it extraordinary.

Here are some different date night ideas that will help you rekindle that romance!

Split it up

Unfortunately for my husband, I am not a fan of surprises and I like to have a say in where we are going for date night.  A great compromise is to split up the date.  One picks the meal and the other picks an activity.  Downtown Gilbert has become a dining hot spot with the recent addition of Postino and Joyride Taco House.  The Hale Centre Theatre is right next door and the perfect spot to catch a fun show on the cheap.

Take a Tour

The weather is finally cooling off and it’s time to go out and explore!  The Queen Creek Olive Mill offers several events a month-wine tastings, live music and their upcoming Olive Harvest Festival (October 12th-December 15th) will give you a chance to keep coming back.

If you want to venture a little further away, the Desert Botanical Garden offers several events during the Fall and Spring including their Chihuly in the Garden exhibit and Fall concert series.

Go Back to School

Downtown Tempe has so many fun things to offer for date night ideas.  If your hubby is a football fan why not catch an ASU game (Go Devils!) and head to Four Peaks Brewery for a sampling of microbrews.

You could take a short hike up “A” mountain and then head to Tempe Beach Park. Make it a day date and pack a picnic lunch before take a little cruise of Tempe Town Lake on the paddleboats.

Tempe has quite a cultural scene including the ASU Art Museum which is FREE!  Right up the street is House of Tricks.  Nestled in Downtown Tempe their outdoor, tree-covered patio is the perfect romantic spot to end your day.

Head Out to Play

Activities like miniature golf and trampolines aren’t just for the kids!  Flipside in Gilbert offers up some “pure awesomeness” for Moms and Dad’s with laser tag and bowling while Octane Raceway in Scottsdale will give you a thrill on their high-speed kart raceway, Segway performance course or rock climbing wall.

Run Errands Together

No that isn’t a typo but an actual date night idea!  We know how difficult it can be to run errands with kids so once the sitter arrives, head out together and tackle your list-but add a little twist to it.

Us Moms love going to Target but since your husband is tagging along let’s make it a game!  The Dating Divas offer a printable “Wal-Mart Bingo Card” to make shopping fun!  If you are loyal to Target they also offer a blank printable card allowing you to make up your own scenes.

Go on a Photo Scavenger Hunt

San Tan Village is a great spot to shop but also a great spot for a photo scavenger hunt!  Armed with your list and your smartphone-document your way through your date night and see who get the highest number of points.  This is SUPER fun when you are out with another couple and even more fun if you mix up couples!  If you need ideas to get your list started, you can find a great one here.

I’d love to hear your favorite places and activities for date night around the East Valley!

  1. Great and creative ideas! We also love to go see bands at the Marquee Theatre on Mill. It’s a great venue to get really close to the band! And we like the Tempe Improv, who doesn’t love to laugh?!!
