Date Night Babysitting Swap

Date Night Babysitting Swap | East Valley Moms Blog

One of our New Years Resolutions last year was to try harder for a date night once a month. Sounds easy right? Until you realize that you date night budget needs to be doubled just to pay for the babysitter. Without having family here we thought we were only left with one choice, but once we started talking with friends we came up with a Date Night Swap. This has been a good reminder to slow down and take time to work on our marriage and for me to enjoy a quiet meal.

So this was easy to set up and coordinate! Here are some easy steps to follow:

  •  FIND 1-2 SETS OF PARENTS THAT ARE IN YOUR SAME SITUATION

We had been talking in our friend group for months about what it would take to get a Date Night Babysitting Swap set up and how it would work. One day while hanging out with a couple at a get-together and the topic came up again. They had family in town, but didn’t want to rely on them each time that they wanted a night out, so they were game for setting up the Swap. Instead of just “talking about it” this time we pulled out our phones and started checking for dates that we both available.

  • DETERMINE HOW MANY HOURS OF BABYSITTING YOU WILL NEED

For our group we decided just having a quiet dinner out would be wonderful or having the opportunity to do a little shopping without the kids would be great! We settled on a 2 hour time frame. This could be extended for your Swap if you want to 3-4 hours to allow you to go to a movie or see a live show.

  • PICK A DATE

Since schedules can get busy we often schedule out next months Date Night while we are picking up the kids. Sometimes things happen and there may be one couple that needs to back out, but then they just pick up the next month. We often find that early dinners are the best (4-6pm or 5-7pm) to get Happy Hour pricing and it allows you to get your kids home for a normal bed time.

  • ENJOY YOUR EVENING OUT OR GET READY FOR KID CENTRAL

The day is here to plan your night out! Get creative with your time or simply pick a nice restaurant that you wouldn’t want to take the kids to. Need some ideas? Check out this Ultimate List of Fun Date Nights

If it’s your turn to watch the kids then plan an easy dinner and get out allllllll the good toys! We love watching out little one make friendships and learning the personalities of the other kids in the group.
