10 Awesome Romantic Comedies Moms Love

The world is a stressful place right now.   When times get stressful, we seek an escape; a refuge, someplace to go where we don’t have to think about the upcoming Presidential election, gun violence, or the state of food production in our country.   Add to that, the daily stresses of being a mom- negotiating with little people, cleaning up messes, the nightly bedtime routine, planning healthy meals, and playing chauffeur.

It’s nice to have some alone time to relax and unwind and forget all the day’s woes. One of the best stress relievers I know is watching romantic comedies; the ones you used to watch over and over again. Like your favorite T-shirt, these movies will always feel good, no matter how many times you watch them.

10 Awesome romantic comedies moms loveSo grab your beverage of choice, make some non- GMO popcorn, snuggle up by yourself or with your significant other, and enjoy a romantic comedy.   Because nothing feels better than a good laugh, a good cry, and hope. Hope that love will prevail.

Here’s a list of 10 Awesome Romantic Comedies to get you started:

 1.  Bridget Jones’s Diary – Lovely Bridget {Renee Zellweger} is convinced she will never meet the man of her dreams, and certainly not a man as wonderful as Jane Austen’s Mr. Darcy.  When she finds herself involved in a love triangle, hilarity ensues. Get ready for the 3rd installment in this series when Bridget Jones’s Baby hits theaters September 16th.

2.  Father of the Bride – Steve Martin plays lovable dad George Banks, who has spent most of his life being overprotective of daughter Annie. When Annie returns from a summer abroad and announces she’s getting married, George’s world is turned upside down, in large part due to Martin Short as eccentric wedding planner, Franck.

3.  Four Weddings and a Funeral – When Englishman Charles {Hugh Grant} meets American Carrie {Andie McDowell} at a friends wedding, he thinks he may have found the woman of his dreams. But life intervenes and he realizes maybe she’s not the one.  You’ll feel this one in your fingers and your toes.

4.  How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days – Advice columnist Andie {Kate Hudson} decides to take on the topic of how to lose a guy in 10 days, but she doesn’t bank on falling in love with her prey, who happens to be played by Matthew McConaughey. Enough said.

5.  Jerry Maguire – When Dorothy Boyd {Renee Zellweger} is the only employee willing to follow sports agent Jerry Maguire {Tom Cruise} as he starts his own company, they fall in love while trying desperately to keep their only client, Rod Tidwell {Cuba Gooding, Jr.} happy. This one has a local connection with Tidwell playing for the Arizona Cardinals!  Show me the money!

6.  Love Actually – While this movie is usually saved for the holidays, there’s no shame in watching it in the middle of summer! Taking place in London, several different love stories are enter twined into one spectacular movie with an all star cast including Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, and Kiera Knightly.

7.  The Proposal – Faced with deportation to her native Canada, Margaret Tate {Sandra Bullock} pretends to be engaged to her assistant Andrew Paxton {Ryan Reynolds.} But in order for the charade to work, Margaret must meet Andrew’s demands, including a trip to Alaska for the neurotic workaholic.

8.  The Wedding Date – I heart Dermot Mulroney, so any excuse to watch him is fine by me. Especially when he plays a male escort, hired by Kat Ellis {Debra Messing} to be her date at her sister’s wedding.

9.  Two Weeks Notice – Starring Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant, this romantic comedy takes place in New York City where environmental lawyer Lucy Kelson ends up reluctantly working for Billionaire George Wade. When George becomes increasingly dependent on Lucy, she hands him her two weeks notice, but she can’t seem to stay away for long.

10.  When Harry Met Sally – This classic starring Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal will never get old. Can men and women ever just be friends? It’s an age-old question that never truly gets answered. Or does it? I’ll have what she’s having…

Is your favorite on the list?  What movies can you watch over and over again?
